Tamil Nadu CM announced Financial aid to the family of V Nandhi
CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday announced a financial aid of Rs 3 lakh to the family of V Nandini, a schoolteacher, who died while resisting the attempt of a robber to snatch her bag in Foreshore Estate here recently.
Nandini was returning home on her two-wheeler after withdrawing Rs 25,000 from a nearby ATM when the incident took place.
N Karunakaran under the influence of alcohol tried to snatch her bag.
Jayalalithaa also extended Rs 3 lakh to the family of V Sekar, a retired PWF staff and a bystander, who was knocked down by the two-wheeler Karunakaran was riding on.
"I was deeply saddened by the death of Nandini and Sekar. I express my deep condolences and sympathies to the families," Jayalalithaa said in a statement.
A Najju, cousin of Nandini, who sustained serious injuries, was offered Rs 1 lakh.
The chief minister said she had ordered proper treatment to Najju and directed her cabinet colleagues, C Vijayabaskar (Health) and V Saroja (Social Welfare), to ensure the required treatment.
