Aam Aadmi Sena vs Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi over women?s safety
New Delhi: Activists of the Aam Aadmi Party Sena (AAPS), a splinter group of Aam Aadmi Party, protested outside Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence here on Wednesday over the issue of women’s safety. Sporting ‘Gandhi topis’, the activists converged outside Kejriwal’s residence in Civil Lines and raised slogans against his government's alleged inaction on the issue.
Earlier on April 11, AAPS had held a similar protest where they lampooned Kejriwal and his administration for not fulfilling the promise of deploying marshals to protect and ensure the safety of women in buses run by the Delhi Transport Corporation ( DTC).
Kejriwal had made this promise during the election campaign that was held for the Delhi State Assembly and formation of a new government in February this year. The issue of safety of women in the national capital has been of great concern since the rape and murder of a 23-year-old woman student in a running bus on the outskirts of Delhi in December 2012.
Though laws regarding rape and women safety have been amended and been given more teeth, incidents of rape and harassment of women continue to be reported and often make media headlines, casting a black mark on the administration and law enforcement agencies.
