State's Padma nomination surprised, says Rajamouli
Centre honoured Director S.S. Rajamouli with the Padma Shri, the ace Telugu director on Tuesday expressed surprise over the choice. His bouquet of surprises didn't end when he realised that his name for Padma Shri was recommended not by Andhra Pradesh or Telangana, but Karnataka, the state where he was born.
On his official social media page, Rajamouli said, "(I) don't know what to say. It is quite a mixed feeling. Very frankly I don't feel I deserve the honour (Padma Shri). This is not humility. I am quite aware of my achievements.
"But I haven't created any artistic brilliance that deserves this honour. Awarding (along with) Ramoji Rao (media baron), and Rajinikanth with Padma Vibhushan is so apt. Their work created a lasting impression that will reflect even on generations to come. It makes me even more humbled to share the occasion with such stalwarts. But (I) can't deny that it also makes me so happy and proud to be with them."
He continued, "Last year, the government of Andhra Pradesh wanted to recommend my name for Padma Shri. However, I requested them not to (recommend my name) citing the same reasons. They insisted. But upon my repeated requests, they dropped my name. This year, I was not consulted at all. I was wondering how this happened when I came to know that I was recommended by the Karnataka government. I was born in Karnataka, studied in Andhra Pradesh, worked in Tamil Nadu and settled in Telangana.
Happy to be a son of all the states." Rajamouli, who has not seen a single flop in his career so far, achieved global fame with Baahubali. A sequel to the film is being shot currently.
