On World Menstrual Hygiene Day Apsara Reddy visited Kellys area and distributed masks and sanitary kits

On World Menstrual Hygiene Day, social activist and All India Mahila Congress General Secretary distributed Sanitary kits to 600 women of Chetpet, Kilpauk and Choolaimedu areas. Accompanying Apsara Reddy were Anisha Navaz a social activist, Transgender activist Anbu and members of the TN Police department including sub-inspector Jhansi Rani who ensured social distancing was followed and all arrangements were conducive for the distribution.

Speaking about the importance of this day, Apsara said, "Women and adolescent girls using clean menstrual kits and managing their personal hygiene is very important to overall wellbeing. During lockdown women and young girls found it particularly difficult to access sanitary pads as only the men folk would go to the shops. And we weren't able to access this many women during section 144. So, on this day we took special permission to reach out to large communities of women."

Vedika Agarwal who works with underprivileged people in slums said, "What Apsara has done basically opens up the conversation on hygiene and normalises it to the masses. Many women fearlessly spoke about their difficulty to Apsara and she addressed it in a healthy way. More women should be open to having these conversations with other women. Using pads or talking about menstrual cycles is not a bad thing."

Apsara also visited a home for the abandoned children and adolescent girls in Kellys area and gave away masks and sanitary kits.
