It’s a dream for all Transformers fans to see an amalgamation of the old and new characters. The seventh film of the franchise - Transformers Rise of the Beasts – is that dream come true! Director Steven Caple Jr. confirms including several fun Easter eggs and sly visual nods throughout the movie. Moving the Transformers saga beyond the eternal battle between Autobots and Decepticons was his goal on Transformers: Rise of the Beasts!

Director Steven Caple Jr. said, “We have the Beasts interacting with the Autobots for the first time in live action, and the story takes place in the mid ’90s, when the series actually aired, which is very different. There are definitely some homages to The Transformers: The Movie in this. We’ve got the OG voice actor Peter Cullen doing the voice of Optimus Prime, of course, but we also have Prime’s original look from the cartoons, and we’ve never really seen Arcee in a live action movie to this extent.”,

“We’re branching out in this movie, while still paying homage to the past, so I think fans will appreciate where we’re going. It’s such a big universe, and now every time I watch the old animated series, I think to myself, how can we bring that into the live-action films?”, adds the director.

And guess who gave the best ideas? Pete Davidson!

“Pete brought a lot of unique ideas to the table. He came up with the idea of paying homage to the era by adding a lot of funny ’90s references, like Jim Carrey in The Mask, and some Adam Sandler characters. So we played with that throughout his recordings.”, Caple says.

Returning with the action and spectacle that’s captured moviegoers around the world, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will take audiences on a ‘90s globetrotting adventure with the Autobots and introduce a whole new faction of Transformers – the Maximals – joining them as allies in the epic battle for earth. Directed by Steven Caple Jr. and starring Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, the film arrives in theatres June 9, 2023, in English, Hindi, Tamil & Telugu in 2D, 3D, 4D and IMAX.

The team of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts open up about why the Maximals presented them with a new challenge!

The seventh film in the Transformers franchise - Transformers: Rise of the Beasts sees a whole new faction of Transformers – the Maximals – who join the autobots in the epic battle for earth. The exciting prospect of bringing the Maximals to the big screen eclipsed any uncertainty the filmmakers may have had, and a decision was made to include them as major protagonists in the new Transformers adventure. Here’s what the makers had to say about the new introduction.

“In this movie, you’ll learn that the Beasts have been on Earth much longer than the Autobots have. They witnessed the rise of mankind, and they shared some of their secrets with humans, so in 1994 they actually have a respect for humanity that the Autobots don’t have yet. The Beasts know humans have merit, and they believe it’s worth fighting to save Earth.” producer Mark Vahradian says.

“The wonderful thing about Transformers is there’s a deep bench of characters available, but the mythology of the Beasts was something we were a little bit cautious of early on, because they’re a completely different form of robot. Unlike the Autobots and Decepticons, the Beasts have fur and skin. They’re not just pieces of metal. Steven was raised on that part of the franchise and he loved it, so in a way, he gave us the courage to embrace the Beasts!” he added.

Gary Brozenich, the Production VFX Supervisor for the film said the Maximals posed a unique challenge.

“It’s a bit more straightforward to transform a car into a standing robot than it is to go from something that’s an animal into a walking, talking robot, which is what the Maximals do. Also, the Maximals have fur and flesh mixed with their metal parts, so striking that balance was probably the biggest technical and creative challenge we faced. Luckily, production designer Sean Haworth has a long history with the series, and he knew the right way to approach all of this from a design standpoint.” Gary says.

Anthony Ramos remembers his first encounter with The Transformers

Fans all over the world have fallen in love with the action-packed and visually stunning films in the Transformers franchise. As the seventh film in the franchise - Transformers: Rise of the Beasts - inches towards its release, Anthony Ramos, who portrays Noah in the film talks about how being a part of it was the culmination of a boyhood dream for him.

“Being in this movie was wild because ‘Beast Wars’ was one of my favourite shows when I was a child. So, when I read the script and saw that Primal, Cheetor, and Rhinox were in it, I was so excited! I felt like a kid again while making it.”, says Anthony Ramos.

Ramos’ connection to the franchise extended to the popular Hasbro toy line as well. Like the original Transformers action figures, the Beast Wars toys were robots that changed shape depending on how you played with them. But rather than change from robots into vehicles, the Beast Wars toys change from robots into animals.

“I had one of the newer ones, I think it was blue and silver, and I’ll never forget that I lost him at my babysitter’s house! I was so upset about it! Buying that toy was the most excited I’d ever been to buy anything at that point in my life.”, Ramos added.
