~A cocktail of dark comedy, horror, mystery & small town quirks awaits with Detective Ujjwalan that premieres on Lionsgate Play in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada & Hindi~

Mysterious murders, twisted minds, and a haunting presence. In the quiet town of Plaachikkaavu, chaos brews, and only one man can untangle it. Step into the world of Detective Ujjwalan, premiering exclusively on Lionsgate Play from September 12 in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. Headlined by Dhyan Sreenivasan, as the eccentric detective Ujjwalan, the film unravels a string of bizarre killings tied to a sinister figure known as the Boogeyman. Directed by debutant duo Indraneel Gopeekrishnan and Rahul G., and produced by Sophia Paul under the Weekend Blockbusters banner, the film blends dark comedy, suspense, and small-town charm into a character-driven mystery, expanding the Weekend Cinematic Universe that began with Minnal Murali.

The film's ensemble cast features Seema G. Nair, Kottayam Nazeer, Ameen, Nihal Nizam, Nibraz Noushad, Shahubas, Kalabhavan Navas, Nirmal Palazhi, and Mathew Puthukadan in pivotal roles that elevates the investigative stakes. Rooted in a community-set whodunit, the story follows Ujjwalan’s relentless chase of a masked killer, offering subtle connections for longtime fans while remaining welcoming for first-time viewers.

Talking about the film, actor Dhyan Sreenivasan said,Stepping into Detective Ujjwalan meant entering a living, breathing universe that audiences already cherish, and discovering a new heartbeat within it. This case tests Ujjwalan’s brilliance and his conscience, every clue peels back a layer, connecting personal stakes to echoes fans will recognize from the Minnal Murali world. What thrilled me was walking that tightrope between a propulsive mystery and an intimate character study, where the choices feel human even when the scale gets bigger. This is one of the most exciting characters I’ve taken on. Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering this world for the first time, there’s something here that will resonate. The film expands the canvas with fresh antagonists and emotional beats, yet it stands confidently on its own.”
