Arun moved out of DVAC; Maheshwari appointed to head anti-corruption wing

The Tamil Nadu government has transferred ADGP A. Arun from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) and appointed him as the Director of the Police Academy

According to an official order issued on Monday, IG C. Maheshwari has been posted as the new head of the DVAC.

Arun, who previously served as Chennai Police Commissioner, was appointed Director of the DVAC on May 25 after the post was re-designated to facilitate his appointment.

His tenure attracted attention following proceedings in the Madras High Court over the preventive detention of a real estate developer under the Goondas Act. The court questioned the detention, while Arun defended the action, stating that the accused had allegedly cheated numerous homebuyers.

The matter later intensified when a High Court bench criticised officials after a court bailiff reportedly had to wait for an extended period to serve summons on Arun. A DVAC official subsequently apologised, explaining that Arun had been attending a confidential meeting.
