Sunstone Launches ALTA School of Technology, India’s First AI-Led Computer Science Program
In a significant step toward transforming engineering education for the AI era, Sunstone today announced the launch of ALTA School of Technology, India’s first AI-led Computer Science program. The initiative aims to bridge the widening gap between traditional engineering education and evolving industry requirements.
ALTA School of Technology emerges as the evolution of Sunstone Select, an engineering initiative by sunstone introduced in 2023 that has enrolled over 600 students across partner campuses in three years. The success of Sunstone Select demonstrated strong demand for industry-aligned, hands-on learning models. Building on this foundation, the new school adopts a sharper, future-ready identity with an exclusive focus on AI-driven Computer Science education.
Each year, India produces more than 1.5 million engineering graduates, yet fewer than 10 percent are considered prepared for AI-driven and product-led technology roles. ALTA has been designed to address this structural skills gap by reimagining how engineers are trained, shifting from passive theoretical instruction to active, project-based learning.
“Sunstone Select showed us that students thrive when education mirrors real industry practices,” said Ashish Munjal, Founder of ALTA and Co-Founder & CEO of Sunstone. “ALTA is the next evolution, AI-first, project-first, and future-first, built for a world where engineers are expected to build, ship, and scale from day one.”
Unlike conventional undergraduate Computer Science programs, ALTA follows a build-from-day-one learning approach. Delivered in partnership with UGC and AICTE-approved institutes across India, the program provides students with industry-grade tools right from the start: students unbox a MacBook on Day One, gain free access to GPT, Claude, Gemini, and 15+ leading AI tools.
Students learn directly from MAANG engineers and industry practitioners, build and deploy 20+ real projects with live users, train in AI labs, and graduate with a GitHub portfolio stronger than a resume; plus a mandatory 6-month apprenticeship before graduation.
ALTA carries forward the experiential learning philosophy pioneered by Sunstone Select, reinforcing the impact of industry mentorship, project-driven outcomes, and real-world exposure on engineering readiness. The new institution sharpens this vision with a singular focus on AI and product engineering.
“Our vision is to match the right students with the right environment, tools, and mentorship so they graduate truly industry-ready,” said Harshit Agarwal, IIT – BHU Alumnus and Director – Program, ALTA.
Career preparedness is embedded into ALTA’s curriculum. Students participate in a strong competitive coding ecosystem (LeetCode, ICPC, GSoC), undergo mock interviews with industry mentors, and follow a portfolio-led hiring pathway. The program also provides access to more than 1,000 recruiting partners, including leading product companies, startups, and unicorns.
Admissions are now open for the 2026 batch across partner campuses nationwide. Students can apply through the ALTA Scholastic Aptitude Test (A-SAT) and may qualify for scholarships of up to 100 percent tuition support based on merit and performance.
