SRM IST to Organize Chairman Trophy – 4th SRM International Open FIDE Rating Rapid Chess Tournament 2026
SRM Institute of Science and Technology will host the Chairman Trophy – 4th SRM International Open FIDE Rating Rapid Chess Tournament 2026 on 12 July 2026 (Sunday) at 8.30 a.m. at the Padma Bhushan Major Dhyan Chand Indoor Stadium, SRM IST, Kattankulathur.
The tournament is being organized by Golden Knights Chess Academy and Master Mind Chess Academy in association with the Directorate of Sports, SRM IST, under the aegis of CGDCA, TNSCA, and AICF. The event aims to provide a competitive platform for chess players to enhance their FIDE ratings, gain valuable tournament experience, and showcase their skills at the international level.
The inaugural ceremony will be graced by Mr. T. Chandrasekar, Secretary, Tamil Nadu Aquatic Association and Joint Secretary, Tamil Nadu Olympic Association, as the Chief Guest, while Prof. R. Mohanakrishnan, Director of Sports, SRM IST, will attend as the Guest of Honour.
The championship has received an overwhelming response with more than 500 entries from players representing India, South Korea, Scotland, France, and the United States of America, making it one of the prominent international rapid chess events in the region. The participation of players from five countries is expected to enhance the competitive standard of the tournament and provide valuable exposure to emerging chess talents.
Through this prestigious championship, SRM IST continues to reaffirm its commitment to promoting sporting excellence and fostering intellectual sports such as chess among students and the wider community.
