Jharkhand Student Protests: Security Tightened Ahead of March

The Jharkhand Police has increased security across Ranchi ahead of a planned Vidhan Sabha March by students on Monday. The students have been protesting for more than two weeks against alleged irregularities in government recruitment examinations.

The police have imposed prohibitory orders around the Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha to prevent any possible disturbance during the protest. Security forces have also been placed on high alert in important areas of the city.

BJP Leader Claims Party President Detained

On Sunday, BJP leader Amar Bauri claimed that Jharkhand BJP state president Aditya Sahu had been “detained at home.” However, police officials denied the claim and said that the administration was taking steps only to maintain law and order.

Police officials appealed to everyone involved in the protest to cooperate with the authorities. They said that maintaining peace during the march is the responsibility of both the protesters and the administration.

Restrictions Around Assembly

Prohibitory orders have been in force within a 750-metre radius of the Vidhan Sabha from August 6 to August 12. The restrictions will apply between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. during this period.

Similar security restrictions have also been introduced in Jamshedpur because of concerns about students travelling to Ranchi to take part in the protest.

The district administration has asked students to conduct their demonstration peacefully. Officials have warned protesters against aggressive behaviour, violence, or damage to public property.

Students Raise Police Action Concerns

Some protesting students have alleged that police were stopping hundreds of students who were travelling to Ranchi for the assembly march. They claimed that students from different parts of the state were being prevented from reaching the state capital.

The administration has urged students to remain calm and follow the rules during the protest. Officials also noted that the students had largely maintained discipline during their earlier demonstrations.

Hunger Strike Continues

Meanwhile, six students continued their hunger strike on Sunday. Their hunger strike has now entered its 16th day as they continue to demand action over the alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations.

The students are demanding a proper investigation into the examination process and action against those responsible if any wrongdoing is found.

With the Vidhan Sabha March planned for Monday, security agencies are closely monitoring the situation in Ranchi. Authorities are hoping that the protest will remain peaceful while discussions continue over the students’ demands.
