Chennai police tighten security as NEET leak protests spread

Police deployed heavy security across Chennai’s Marina Beach on Thursday, restricting access between the Labour Statue and the Lighthouse as a precaution amid protests linked to the alleged NEET examination paper leak

Barricades were erected at several entry and exit points, while more than 100 police personnel, along with patrol vehicles, were stationed across the stretch. Officers dispersed groups gathering in the area and requested visitors to leave to prevent any escalation.

The enhanced security follows continuing demonstrations in Delhi, where members of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and numerous young protesters have been demanding action over the alleged paper leak and seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The protests in the national capital have affected public movement, with reports of Metro station closures and disruptions to internet connectivity in some areas. Police used batons and tear gas to disperse demonstrators after tensions intensified.

The agitation has since spread to several states, including Tamil Nadu, where student organisations and youth groups have organised protests over the examination controversy.

n Chennai, a separate protest has entered its fourth day at the CPI’s Balan Illam in T Nagar. Students, activists, CJP members and members of the public have continued their demonstration, calling for accountability over the alleged examination irregularities.
