The Madras Quiz sees participation from over 125 teams from across the city

The Madras Quiz 2025, conducted by renowned quizmaster Dr Sumanth C Raman, was held today at the MMA Auditorium, Pathari Road, off Anna Salai. The event, presented by the Murugappa Group as part of the Madras Week celebrations, drew enthusiastic participation with 125 teams from across the city.
In a closely fought final, R Shantaram and N Ramaswamy emerged as the winners of the 2025 edition, lifting the prestigious rolling trophy and receiving gift vouchers worth ₹15,000. Jayakanthan and Kartik Ramadas took second place, winning gift vouchers worth ₹10,000, N Rajaram and G Sundar secured the third spot and gift vouchers worth ₹8,000. The top two teams were presented with trophies sponsored by Chola MS.
The Chief Guest for the event, Mr Sridharan Rangarajan, Managing Director, CUMI, congratulated the winners and participants. “It has been a privilege to be part of the Madras Quiz and to witness the energy and pride it inspires. My congratulations to the winners and to every team that participated in celebrating the city’s 386th birthday. It was lovely to see how enthusiastic the audience was, reflecting the theme, Idhu Oru Thani Vibe. As part of the Murugappa Group, I feel proud of our deep association with this city, from the early 1900s till date. Our new YouTube series, ‘Murugappa in Madras’, also celebrates this enduring connection by exploring the neighbourhoods in this city where we have established our presence. This quiz is s a living tribute to the stories and spirit of a city that continues to reinvent itself while staying true to its roots.”
Special prizes were also awarded to the Best Women’s Team: A M Baby Shakkeela and N Abirami Shyla; Best Senior Citizens’ Team: K Suresh and K Murali; Best School Students’ Team: Harshad R and Mithilesh S; and the Best Team Name: D Mitthilesh and Srivats Gopal. Audience members too walked away with exciting spot prizes, keeping the energy in the auditorium high throughout the evening.
This year’s theme, Idhu Oru Thani Vibe, celebrated the city’s unique spirit of inclusivity and belonging.
This year’s edition also introduced innovative rounds, including one based on mixture and another that used AI-generated visuals, adding a fresh twist to the quizzing experience.
Murugappa in Madras YouTube Series
As part of the celebrations, the Murugappa Group has launched the Murugappa in Madras | Pincode Series: Mapping a Legacy, One Code at a Time, a series on YouTube. Anchored by historian and heritage activist Mr Sriram V, the series highlights the pin codes in Chennai where the Group has established businesses and institutions or created a lasting impact. Through this series, the Group pays tribute to its enduring connection with the city’s growth, heritage and identity.
