SRMIST Creates Nova World Record in 25-Hour Surya & Chandra Namaskar Marathon, Anti-Drug Campaign

SRMIST Celebrates Founder’s Birthday with Record-Breaking 25-Hour Blindfold Yoga Performance and Anti-Drug Awareness Initiative
In a remarkable Achievement to the Founder’s Birthday, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) organized a 25-hour non-stop blindfold yoga performance at the Padma Bhushan Major Dhyan Chand Indoor Stadium, SRM Kattankulathur, from August 23 to August 24, 2025. This official Nova World Records attempt was organized by the Directorate of Sports and the Department of Yoga, highlighting the institution’s commitment to both wellness and social responsibility.
A total of 240 enthusiastic participants performed Surya Namaskar from 4:30 AM to 6:40 PM, followed by Chandra Namaskar from 6:40 PM to 5:30 AM the next day. The performance was carried out in 30 batches (17 Surya and 13 Chandra), each consisting of 8 participants. The event showcased extraordinary discipline, mindfulness, and endurance, emphasizing the values of mental clarity and a healthy lifestyle.
Aligned with the occasion, SRMIST also promoted anti-drug awareness, integrating the message of a drug-free, balanced, and conscious life through the practice of yoga. This initiative reinforced the university’s dedication to shaping not only academically sound individuals but also socially responsible citizens.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Prof. R. Mohana Krishnan, Director of Sports, and concluded with a valedictory address by Dr. Leenus Jesu Martin M, Dean of Engineering and Technology. Dr. M. Senthilkumar, Head of the Department of Yoga, proposed the vote of thanks, marking the successful conclusion of this meaningful and record-setting initiative.
