Pant Breaks Dhoni’s Wicketkeeping Record in Sri Lanka Test

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has achieved a major milestone by going past former India captain and wicketkeeper MS Dhoni in the list of India’s highest run-scorers among wicketkeepers in away Test matches.

Pant reached 2,501 runs during the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo. He scored these runs at an average of 41.68, moving just ahead of Dhoni, who finished his away Test career with 2,496 runs.

The achievement is an important moment in Pant’s Test career. Dhoni was one of India’s most successful wicketkeeper-batters and played a key role for the national team for many years. Pant has now moved ahead of him in this particular away-Test record.

However, Pant’s record-breaking performance came during a difficult period in the match. On the first day of the Test, Pant was hit on his left arm by Sri Lankan fast bowler Lahiru Kumara. The impact left Pant in pain, and he was forced to retire hurt.

There were concerns about whether Pant would be able to continue playing. However, he returned to the field on the second day after receiving treatment and support from the team’s physiotherapist.

Despite the injury and some challenging bowling from Sri Lanka, Pant continued to contribute with the bat. He joined Dhruv Jurel, and the two batters added valuable runs for India.
