KKR’s Harshit Rana Faces Long Absence in IPL 2026
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are set to face a significant challenge in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 as their key fast bowler, Harshit Rana, might miss most of the season due to injury. Rana suffered a right knee ligament strain during India’s T20 World Cup 2026 warm-up match against South Africa in early February.
Following the injury, he underwent successful surgery in Mumbai later that month. According to ESPNCricinfo, there is no official timeline for his return, as he continues his rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. At just 24 years old, Rana has been a crucial player for KKR since debuting in 2022, taking 40 wickets in 34 matches.
His injury is particularly concerning because it means he could miss two major tournaments in a row—both the T20 World Cup and IPL 2026—if his recovery takes longer than expected. IPL 2026 will begin on March 28, with defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) facing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
KKR, who won the IPL title in 2024, will kick off their campaign against Mumbai Indians (MI) on March 29. However, they are already dealing with other injury issues. Another fast bowler, Matheesha Pathirana from Sri Lanka, is recovering from a calf strain sustained during the T20 World Cup.
The team’s bowling attack also includes Akash Deep, Vaibhav Arora, Umran Malik, Ramandeep Singh, and Cameron Green. Despite losing Mustafizur Rahman due to political tensions between India and Bangladesh, KKR has added Zimbabwean pacer Blessing Muzarabani as a replacement.
Meanwhile, the IPL Governing Council has only released schedules for the first 20 matches due to upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, and Kerala. This adds another layer of uncertainty for teams as they prepare for what promises to be an unpredictable season.
