Suresh Raina, an Indian international cricketer, was born in Muradnagar, Uttar Pradesh on November 27, 1986, into a Kashmiri Pandit family. Raina was prodigious at the under-19 level, his run-scoring and a string of double-hundreds taking him to the Indian Junior. He represented a new breed of Indian cricketer: an attacking left-handed middle-order batsman and occasional off-spin bowler. He is the second-youngest player ever to captain India. He is one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket. He is the first Indian batsman to score centuries in all three international cricket formats, including test, one-day, and T20.
Raina was awarded "best fielder" by the BCCI ahead of the finals of the IPL 2010. Raina represented India in the 2011 World Cup, where they brought the cup home after 28 years of waiting. He is considered the young achiever who was the first Indian player to score 6000 as well as 8000 runs in his Twenty 20 career, the first ever cricketer to reach 5000 runs in the IPL, and holds the record for the most number of catches (107) in the IPL, the second after Chris Gayle, and the first Indian player to hit 100 sixes in the IPL. He is also the highest run scorer in the CLT20(842) runs, the most fifties in Champions League T20 history, and the most runs scored in the powerplay in an IPL match. Suresh Raina was made the brand ambassador of the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) in 2017.
In the same year, on the first birthday of his daughter, he announced the launch of the Gracia Raina Foundation, established with the goal of women's empowerment. Raina was firmly associated with the Chennai Super Kings and people called him "Chinna Thala". In 2021, Raina tried his hand at being an author and released his autobiography, "Believe—What Life and Cricket taught me". He is also known as Mr. IPL for being a prolific run-scorer throughout the 12 seasons of the Indian Premier League. Raina announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket on August 15, 2020, minutes after the retirement of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
