"Indian travellers are displaying strong inclination to explore diverse locales across the country, and at Thomas Cook India we have witnessed a growing demand of approx 12-15% for the unique trend of 'festive tourism' that combines a curiosity for culture-heritage via short breaks presented by festival holidays. For the upcoming celebrations of Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Durga Puja, Navratri and Dussehra, we are observing interest from both metro as well as Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets. While families and Gen S travellers are the major drivers, we have also observed an emerging demand from millenials and young professionals from Tier I cities showing keen interest in festive tourism.

With Janmashtami around the corner, what is noteworthy is that our customers  are showing interest in festivities such as the midnight Krishna Janam celebration at the Dwarkadheesh temple in Dwarka, Rasleela in the birthplace and holy city of Mathura, the ritualistic Abhishek of Lord Krishna in the city of Vrindavan, or the Dadhikana or Nandotsava in Gokul, while seeking to immerse themselves in a range of authentic and unforgettable local experiences. In the Southern parts of India, a visit to the Krishna Temple in Udipi with its distinctive Dravidian architecture, witnessing classical dance and music performances along with the grand Pooja at the Guruvayoor temple in Kerala, form some of the special experiences during the occasion of Janmashtami."
