NHRC Chairman Justice V Ramasubramanian Inaugurates Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law Centres at SRM School of Law

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Justice V Ramasubramanian inaugurated the Centre for Human Rights Studies and the Centre for International Humanitarian Law and Refugee Law at SRM School of Law in the city. The launch is aimed at creating new avenues for advanced research, policy dialogue, and international collaboration.

Justice Ramasubramanian along with Additional Solicitor General of India, ARL Sundaresan participated as chief guests in the induction programme organized by SRM School of Law, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) to welcome their incoming 2026 batch.

In his keynote speech, Justice Ramasubramanian said, “students should approach the legal profession with integrity, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to lifelong learning. Students should believe in the transformative power of hard work and resilience. While legal knowledge can be taught, qualities such as ethical conduct, compassion, analytical thinking, and emotional intelligence define exceptional lawyers.”

He explained why the world needs lawyers, and how legal professionals apply logic, interpret the law, resolve complex human conflicts, and uphold justice.

Additional Solicitor General, Sundaresan, spoke about the immense responsibility that accompanies the legal profession. He emphasised the importance of discipline, integrity, and professionalism, encouraging students to build careers founded on ethical values.

Prof. Y.S.R. Murthy, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Law), SRMIST, congratulated the new students and their families for choosing SRM School of Law and reaffirmed the institution's vision of nurturing future judges, advocates, corporate leaders, policymakers, and legal scholars through a multidisciplinary, research-driven, and practice-oriented legal education.
