Chennai 18th March,2022: MGM Healthcare, a leading quaternary care super-specialty hospital today announced the inauguration of its exclusive Sleep Clinic on the occasion of World Sleep Day celebrated on 18th of March. This specialty Sleep Clinic will diagnose and treat a variety of sleep disorders which includes sleep apnea, Insomnia, Narcolepsy, Restless leg syndrome (RLS) or periodical limb movement syndrome (PLMS), Sleep walking (Somnambulism), Sleep talking (Somniloquy), Nocturnal Enuresis (Bed wetting), and Bruxism (grinding of the teeth).

The sleep clinic of MGM Healthcare will have a multi-disciplinary speciality team comprising of Pulmonologists, ENT Surgeons, Neurologists, Psychiatrists, Maxillofacial surgeons, and Bariatric surgeons and a sleep technician with sleep lab to diagnose and treat sleep disorders. The state of art Sleep lab is equipped to do Polysomnography (single night study) to record sleeping, breathing, oxygen, heart rate, airflow, snoring and brain activity by Electro Encephalogram (EEG), leg and chin movements by Electromyogram (EMG) to diagnose the sleep disorders accurately. There is also level 1,2 Polysomnogram and level 3 sleep study (portable) available for home sleep apnea test.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch of the sleep clinic, Dr Jayaraman S, Senior Consultant, Pulmonary Medicine said, “Lot of people experience sleeping problems (Insomnia, Sleep Apenea), but when the problems recur and becomes frequent, it could indicate an underlying health concern.   Sleep disorders are generally preventable, treatable, controllable, and curable depending on the stage (mild, moderate, severe) and duration of sleep disorders. Untreated sleep disorders mainly sleep apnea may lead to complications like Hypertension, Diabetes, Heart attack, Stroke, Road traffic accidents, depression, and cancer etc.
