Home team SCR tastes its first loss at the hands of title holder PNB at the 'Gooncha 57th Nehru Senior Hockey Tournament’!
Hyderabad, November 18th, 2021: The first match of the fifth day at the ‘Gooncha 57th Nehru Senior Hockey Tournament’, was played between the Pool ‘A’ teams, with Punjab National Bank (PNB) defeating SCR by 4-2; at the SCR Sports Complex, Secunderabad. PNB have a glorious legacy of being the holder of this trophy and two times winners in the past. The home team SCR rose from the ranks qualifying in the Knock out round before entering the league stage and this was their first loss in the tournament. The game exhibited by both the teams was below par, some good penalty corner conversions were the saviours for PNB, to scrape through this crucial match.
Aiyappa Pranjan gaveSCR lead by scoring a field goal in the 3rd minute of the game. Only in the 20th minute PNB got relief through Bhagat Singh Dhillon’s penalty corner conversion and the teams went for halftime break with the score being equal at 1-1. It was Naveen Anil, who gave a glimmer of hope to PNB by proving lead through a field goal in the 41st minute. In no time SCR equalled the scores, through a Pratap Lakkra’s penalty corner conversion in the 49th minute.The two penalty corner conversions by Bhagat Singh Dhillon in the 54th and 58th minutes, saved the day for PNB. Bhagat Singh Dhillon of PNB was declared the Man of the Match.

Indian Navy shores up its fortune with 1-0 win over seeded PSB, at the 'Gooncha 57th Nehru Senior Hockey Tournament’!
Hyderabad, November 18th, 2021:The second match of the day was between Punjab & Sind Bank (PSB) and Indian Navy, from Pool ‘B’, at the ‘Gooncha 57th Nehru Senior Hockey Tournament’, at the SCR Sports Complex, Secunderabad. Outsider Indian Navy which qualified through the knock out round, continued its winning spree and prevailed upon seeded PSB team, by 1-0. Most part of the match was drab with neither team making an impact. Jugraj Singh’s outstanding performance in the fourth quarter helped Indian Navy shore up its fortune. He scored the only goal in the match by converting a penalty corner in the 56th minute. Jugraj Singh of Indian Navy was named the Man of the Match.

Game - 3: Indian Railways vs CAG XI
Indian Railways register 2-1 win against CAG Xl, makes
Almost certain of its semi-final berth!
Hyderabad, November 18th, 2021: In the third match of the day played between Indian Railways and CAG XI of Pool ‘B’, Indian Railways won by 2-1; at the ‘Gooncha 57th Nehru Senior Hockey Tournament’, at the SCR Sports Complex, Secunderabad. With this Indian Railways won their second Pool ‘B’ match and made certain of their entry into semi-finals, yesterday they defeated PSB 7-3 in their first League match. The match went goalless till halftime, but Pardeep Singh provided the break for Indian Railways in the 32nd minute, through a field goal. CAG XI came back with an equaliser in the 42nd minute through a penalty corner, converted by Chandan Singh. Joginder Singh sealed the game in favour of Indian Railways by converting a penalty corner in the 50th minute. Arjun Sharma of Indian Railways, was named the Man of the Match.
Results: Indian Railways - 2 (Pardeep Singh – 32nd minute – field goal & Joginder Singh – 50th minute, penalty corner) beat CAG XI - 1 (Chandan Singh - 42 minute - penalty corner).

This Society was incorporated in the fond memory of Independent India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to promote the ecstatic National Game of Hockey. The all- time greats such as Dhanraj Pillay, Pargat Singh, Zafar Iqbal, Ajit Pal Singh and many more have played in the tournament. The exposure given to hockey players by the JNHT Society Tournaments has allowed many of them to go onto the Indian National Hockey Team, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and the Olympics. This includes the recent bronze victory of the Indian National Hockey Team’s Captain, Manpreet Singh who played the Junior and Senior Nehru Hockey Tournaments before getting into the Indian National Hockey Team.
