Final Safety Audit Begins for Metro Phase II

The final and most important safety inspection for Chennai Metro Rail’s Phase II project began on Wednesday. This inspection is being carried out for the stretch between Poonamallee and Vadapalani. Train services on this route are expected to begin later this month.

At around 9.30 a.m., the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) for the southern circle, Anant Madhukar Chowdhary, along with his team of officials, started the inspection at the Poonamallee Bypass Metro Rail station.

The safety audit is a key step before starting passenger services. During the inspection, officials will carefully check the tracks, stations, signalling systems, power supply, and other safety measures. They will also review emergency systems to ensure passenger safety.

Only after the CMRS gives approval can regular train services begin on the new stretch. Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) officials said they are confident that all safety standards have been met.

The new corridor is expected to improve connectivity between Poonamallee and Vadapalani and reduce travel time for daily commuters.
