Mumbai, 22nd August 2019: An Antar Agni collection by Ujjawal Dubey is always a creative expression of the designer’s thought processes, style and construction. At Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019, the Antar Agni label took fashion for men and women to a much higher sartorial level, when the show focused on the fact that wearing the similarly designed garment can still enable the dressers to celebrate their individual personality.

The Antar Agni brand brought the concept of great drapes and layering to men’s wear and opened the unconventional design path for fusion and ethnic wear. This creativity was taken to women’s wear, which then ended up turning into unisex ensembles.

The sharp silhouettes were very apparent along with the characteristic drapes that Antar Agni is renowned for. The mélange of draped, fluid kurtas and tailored jackets revealed the complete control, designer Ujjawal Dubey had over his label’s fortè.

Keeping the colour story partial to ivory, Ujjawal turned towards strokes of pigeon blue, mouse grey, teal, deep brown, tan and hints of silver grey to cater to the Winter/ Festive season.

Fabrics have also been an important base for the brand, so a selection was made from linen blends, hand woven cotton, cotton zari and cotton silk.

Opening the show with an ivory extended sleeves, side flapped silhouette for a kurta jacket, he continued with attached dupattas, cropped jackets with loose pants and some with asymmetric tie-ups. A tiny shimmer of lines on the bundgala had a convenient attached scarf, while multiple slim flaps cascaded from a jacket were the constant detail that appeared on the creations for men’s and women’s wear.

Women’s wear was as sharply constructed as that for the men but with an occasionally layered angular kurta, asymmetric tunic with one shoulder flap and some crisply tailored kurtas for Him and Her.

For the Winter/Festive 2019 season, Antar Agni by Ujjawal Dubey had a grand offering of unisex clothing for men and women that will be perfect, practical additions to their wardrobes.

URVASHI KAUR’S COLLECTION WAS A TREASURE TROVE OF FABRICS, EMBELLISHMENTS AND DESIGN AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER/FESTIVE 2019

When Urvashi Kaur presents her creations, there is deep thought and great research involved behind each garment. Her “Masira” collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019 was thoroughly expressed with inspirations from the works of Ethiopian artist Dawit Abebe, whose paintings and graphic colours formed Urvashi’s collection backdrop.

The designer first selected her colour story, which started with grey and black and then swiftly moved to inserts of teal, ecru and deep blood red. To this colour board, she added Shibori in multi-colours and some tactile thread work along with block prints.

Next Urvashi turned her attention to a vast rich selection of fabrics that had hand woven Khes from Punjab, detailed Shibori, tie-dye from Churu in Rajasthan and then chose Maheshwari silks form Maheshwar. There was also hand-woven Khadi from the Women Weave that supports and empowers women artisans in Madhya Pradesh.

There was impressive symmetry in Urvashi’s engineered silhouettes. Multiple panels were balanced with seams and woven stripes. Her leitmotif has always been intricate hand pleating, which was creatively seen on natural textiles along with Kantha work.

The sharply cut 3-piece suit with notched lapels and single button closure was a perfect winter offering, red winter coat, while the layered, flouncy, ruffled maxi skirt styled with a long-sleeved shirt was a perfect dual offering.

Some more exciting creations for women include a patched short jacket and red/grey kaftan jumpsuit with tie-up red tunic over sari and pants as well as a great buttoned up long shirt. The sheer tiered maxi shirt dress and the front pleated drop waist dress and the final layered floor length creation with an asymmetric shirt completed the feminine wardrobe offering.

For men Urvashi had the perfect winter offering with wide pants and long loose sweaters, kurtas under jackets, a robe, one-button jacket, kurta and pant trio that were in tune with the theme.

Urvashi Kaur’s “Masira” collection had numerous design elements that made her ensembles just perfect for the coming season.
