US dollar fluctuates
New York: The US dollar fluctuated against other major currencies as job data matched the market consensus. The US jobs report came out mostly in line with market expectations. US total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 215,000 in July, compared with an average monthly gain of 246,000 over the previous 12 months, Xinhua reported on Friday, citing the US labour department.
The unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.3 percent. In late New York trading, the euro gained to $1.0970 from $1.0922 of the previous session, and the British pound decreased to $1.5492 from $1.5514. The Australian dollar went up to $0.7407 from $0.7341.
The US dollar bought 124.17 Japanese yen, lower than 124.71 yen of the previous session. The greenback moved up to 0.9836 Swiss franc from 0.9810 Swiss franc and moved up to 1.3134 Canadian dollars from 1.3120 Canadian dollars.
