Chennai: Police arrested three persons who had extorted money from a pedestrian near Koyambedu bridge, after ganging up and threatening him with a weapon.

According to police sources, Shakthivel (40) from Villupuram had filed a complaint with police that three men threatened him with a knife and got away with Rs 1500 while he was walking under the Koyambedu bridge on the evening of 28 November.

During investigations, police identified the perpetrators to be Sathish (23) from Gandhipuram, Padmanabhan (26) from Koyambedu and one Jayakumar (20). The trio was subsequently taken into custody.

In a separate case, police arrested one Kannan (24) on charges of stealing the battery of a van. He was taken into custody after the owner of the vehicle Perumal from Nerkundram lodged a complaint with the police.
