TNPCB appellate authority to hear Sterlite's appeal
CHENNAI: The appellate authority of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) will hear an appeal by Tuticorin's Sterlite Copper on Friday against the pollution regulator's decision to not renew the Consent to Operate (CTO) issued to the smelter unit.
The CTO issued to the unit expired on March 31 and was not renewed after which the company filed a petition challenging the regulator's decision.
The company, an arm of Vedanta Ltd, has been at the receiving end of protests from local people and political parities. They accused the plant of polluting the port town.
