Student allegedly assaulted by staff of University of Madras
Chennai: A day after a French national student was allegedly assaulted by non-teaching staff of University of Madras during a seminar, around 40 students staged a sit-in protest in the varsity campus today, forcing the police to detain them.
The students were reportedly kept in a community hall in the city. They demanded that two staff of Anna Centre and the Controller of Examinations be suspended for physically assaulting Jonas Anton Pulendrasa.
One of the protestors, who is a student of Politics department-International Relations, said he has evidence, a recording, to strengthen his claim that a senior official of the university is responsible for the incidents happening on the campus.
Last evening, a few students gathered before the building which houses Vice-Chancellor R Thandavan's office, demanding that the staff apologised to Jonas.
