Parents of dead techie petition to commissioner
Chennai: The mother of a 25-year-old software engineer rolled on the road in front of the commissioner's office here before giving the complaint and pleading with the officials to take action against her son-in-law, in a desperate bid to seek justice for her daughter's death.
Deepika (25) committed suicide by leaping from the 15th floor of her apartment in Singapore. Her parents, Usha and Srinivasan, have demanded that the police take action against her husband for abetment to suicide.
In their complaint to Chennai police commissioner T K Rajendran, Deepika's parents have blamed harassment by her husband Jai Krishnan, a Singapore-based technical analyst, for her death. It is learnt that Deepika had a baby girl on 2 September and had sent a message last to her sister Deepa in Chennai.
The parents asked the commissioner to take steps to bring their daughter's body and their granddaughter to Chennai. The complaint was forwarded to the Central Crime Branch (CCB) by the commissioner, asking them to investigate the case in coordination with law enforcement agencies in Singapore.
An investigating officer said Deepika messaged Deepa, 'If anything happens to me, you should ask my husband pay for the expenses to bring my body to India.' Deepa said her sister's husband tormented her, and said, 'She had sent me another message a few days ago, saying she was depressed and decided to end her life.'
Usha said, 'My daughter called me a few days ago and said her husband was demanding Rs. 10 lakh for her hospitalisation when she gave birth to her daughter in September.'
