Income-Tax raids at Chennai jewellery showroom
Chennai: Sleuths of the Income-Tax department carried out a raid at a major jewellery showroom in the city this morning.
According to sources, a prominent businessman on Thursday bought jewels worth Rs 1 crore at the NAC jewellery store. This aroused suspicion in the Delhi Direct Tax department, which, in turn, asked its counterparts in Chennai to look into the purchase.
However, when inquired, the store allegedly did not produce proper documents. Following this, a raid was initiated at the popular outlet. The checks which began at 4 am today, was currently on, with officials investigating if there were any discrepancies in the purchase.
