GVK Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) connecting India and Southeast Asia with 24 daily flights
~The new international routes introduced via MIAL to boost MICE and leisure travel amongst passengers travelling from Mumbai and adjacent cities~
Mumbai, 30 July 2019: India has emerged as the fastest growing economy in the world. Being one of the key players in the South Asian as well as the Indian Ocean region, India has been engaged with many Asian and coastal countries on a regular basis. Realizing the importance of Southeast Asia and the need to start an active dialogue towards development, collaboration and tourism, GVK led Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) is expanding its existing reach with added flight frequency to the Southeast Asian countries. Being a crusader to provide best-in-class facilities and services to the travellers flying via GVK CSMIA, the Mumbai airport endeavors to provide them with maximum passenger delight.
Catering to 48.8 million passengers, MIAL sees an increasing passenger traffic travelling to Southeast Asian countries like Singapore, Thailand, Bangkok, among other destinations. Fostering accessibility and profound connectivity to the Southeast Asian countries, the Mumbai International airport will soon see an increase in the current flight frequency to Bangkok, and Singapore within the next one month. A total of 488,538 passengers (669 passengers per day each way) travelled between Mumbai-Bangkok-Mumbai in FY 2018-19. With 24 daily flights, on an average CSMIA caters to 27% of the total passenger traffic between Mumbai and the Southeast Asian countries. The expansion of GoAir, IndiGo, Vistara and now SpiceJet flights to the existing fleet to these countries will not only boost MICE travel (Meetings, incentives, conferencing, exhibitions) but will also accelerate leisure tourism.
Additionally, CSMIA also witnessed passenger traffic to Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Muscat among other prominent Middle Eastern countries. Encapsulating the details, during FY 2018-19, a total of 171,041 passengers (234 passengers per day each way) travelled between Mumbai-Abu Dhabi-Mumbai. While, 221,708 passengers (304 passengers per day each way) travelled between Mumbai-Muscat-Mumbai.
Passengers today have access to Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern countries with multiple airline flying directly or operating routes via destinations from the Mumbai International Airport. While CSMIA sees massive outflow of passengers travelling to destinations via Mumbai, it also witnesses a heavy passenger inflow from countries like - United Arab Emirates (Dubai), Singapore, United Kingdom (London), Thailand (Bangkok), and Saudi Arabia (Jeddah). CSMIA through its world class offerings cater to the various destination choices of the changing dynamics in travellers.
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport through its varied services is fostering connectivity and accessibility to travellers in Mumbai and its adjacent cities like Pune, Ahmedabad, Nashik, Nagpur, etc. Through the introduction of new domestic and international routes, MIAL is sure to expand its horizons reaching out to explorers, travellers and businesses and connecting them across regions.
Furthermore, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is also expanding its reach to other Asian countries with SpiceJet’s direct route launch between Mumbai to Hong Kong at 1:05 hrs on Wednesday, 31 July 2019. This is the fourth non-stop international route introduced by MIAL in the last 60 days with the first one expanding RwandAir’s connectivity from Mumbai to China’s trade capital Guangzhou on 18 June 2019. Followed by direct flights by Air Tanzania from Mumbai to Dar Es Salaam on 18 July 2019 connecting India and Tanzania after 20+ years. MIAL also welcomed GoAir’s newest international route to Muscat, Bangkok, and Abu Dhabi on 19 July 2019.
