DMK ward councillor hacked to death in church
CHENNAI: A five-member gang chased and hacked to death a DMK ward councillor of a village panchayat in side a church at Padappai near Tambaram on Sunday.The victim, G Dhanasekharan, was all set to file his nomination for the local body polls on Monday.
A resident of Periyar Nagar, Dhanasekaran was representing ward number six and was the DMK's youth wing secretary in Padappai. He was a member of Devasabha Church and was attending a service at the pentecostal mission's prayer hall at 11.30am when he received a call. He stepped out of the hall and was talking over the phone when a five-member gang surrounded him. Noticing their suspicious movements, he ran into a nearby CSI church where the service was on. But the assailants followed him inside and hacked him to death.
People in the church raised the alarm and ran out of the building. The sickle-wielding gang escaped from the scene on three motorcycles which were parked a few metres away from the church. Police rushed to the spot and sent Dhanasekaran's body for postmortem to the Pallavaram government hospital. Investigations revealed that he was a realtor and also into the sand business. Police suspect that he ran into the CSI church rather than his own church, as it was more crowded.
Dhanasekaran is survived by his wife Daisy , and sons Isaac, 5, and Jacob, 3. After preliminary enquiries, police suspect that the motive for the murder could be to prevent the victim from filing his nomination for the local body election.
