Collector inspect Abdul Kalam's memorial site work
RAMESWARAM: Collector S. Natarajan and Superintendent of Police N. Manivannan on Monday inspected the arrangements being made for the foundation stone laying ceremony of ‘Dr APJ Abdul Kalam National Memorial’ at the burial site of the former President on the occasion of his first death anniversary at Pei Karumbu near here on July 27.
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Defence (MoD), transported a seven-foot-tall bronze statue of Kalam for installation at the site.
The DRDO, which was building the memorial, has made ready a five-foot-tall pedestal at the entrance of the burial site and is giving finishing touches for the installation of the statue. The life-size statue is similar to the one installed at DRDO Complex in Hyderabad. The statue was kept in a box and the police have posted armed guards near the pedestal and the statue.
Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar would lay the foundation stone for the memorial in the presence of Union Ministers Pon. Radhakrishnan and Subhash Ramrao Bhamre, State Ministers Nilofer Kafeel and M. Manikandan and local MP A. Anwar Raja, an official invitation said, The function would begin at 9 a.m.
