56 year old farmer commits suicide in Tamil Nadu
ERODE: A 56-year-old farmer in Erode district of Tamil Nadu committed suicide by consuming poison after losing his turmeric crops.
The deceased has been identified as P Ramalingam, 56, of Karattupalayam village near Kodumui in Erode district. Ramalingam had cultivated turmeric on his three-acre land. "He lost turmeric crops due to acute shortage of water," said Kalingarayan Mathagu Paasana Vivasayigal Sangam secretary S Selvakumar.
"Ramalingam had been looking upset for the past few days. He consumed poison on Sunday night," said the Erode town police. Family members rushed him to Kodumudi Government Hospital. Later, he was referred to Erode District Headquarters Hospital.
"He died at the District Headquarters Hospital on Monday afternoon without responding treatment," the police said.
