'Malavika Sangghvi, Sushmita Sen and Raaj Sanghvi'
Mumbai, March: She’s the last word on lifestyle, glitz and glamour that makes Mumbai tick, so celebrating her special birthday was bound to be an evening of unmatched panache. Entrepreneur and Co-founder SANGUINE Raaj Sanghvi hosted a glamorous bash for his mother Malavika Sangghvi at the St Regis Hotel on 10th March 2018.
The highlight of the evening was the eclectic guest list from A- list industrialists to every leading designer of the country, from edgy photographers to avant garde starchitects to Sobo grande dames to publishers and editors and best selling authors and artists and of course Bollywood stars to MS’ oldest colleagues and friends the room was suffused with warmth and laughter and cheer for a lady who had taught the city how to mix it up, let one’s hair down and kick up one’s heels ever since she hosted the legendary Bombay Times’ parties of yore.
Some of those seen partaking of the excited cheer and conversation were the likes of Cyrus Poonawalla , Anand and Anuradha Mahindra, Harsh Goenka, Niranjan Hiranandan, Adarsh Jatia, Hital and Bijal Meswani, Bindu Kapoor, Atul and Gayatri Ruia, Anurag Bhatnagar, Dinesh Nair, Tarun Tahiliani, Rohit Bal, Arjun Khanna , Anita Dongre , Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, Sushmita Sen , Vidya Balan and Siddharth Roy Kapoor, Shaina NC, Sanjay and Zarine Khan , Jackie Shroff , Simone Arora and Farah Khan , Alex and Namita Kuruvilla, Amish Tripathi ,Ashiesh shah , Hafeez Contactor, Kabir Bedi, Soni Razdan, Tasneen Mehta ,Kanika Kapoor Praful Patel , Anand Jain , Kishore Bajaj, Rahul Bose, Saryu Doshi, Bakul Patel , Hema deora, Zarina Mehta and Atul Kasbekar amongst others.
Held on the top floor of the tony St. Regis hotel, the birthday bash was themed “glamorous black”. Tracing the stages of her life at the hall, there was even a kiddie birthday section that took the birthday girl back in time to her childhood, as she reminisced over chips and candy. Classy red sheen and black décor accentuated the evening that saw some of some of Mumbai’s best and brightest take to the dancefloor as the DJ belted out Shammi Kapoor and MJ hits getting even the most straight laced and well heeled to demonstrate their meanest moves on the floor the party kept growing as people like Anand and Anuradha Mahindra dropped in post their sit down dinner with Hillary Clinton!
A stunning four-tier black velvet cake created by Chef Himanshu Taneja that was both delicious and a remarkable work of art was a talking point as guests gathered to take photos.
Raaj, the evenings host ensured that those with a sweet tooth got more than a heady dose of desserts with an extensive selection of goodies. This was preceded by an atlas of cuisines that saw much representation from a range of culinary options. From dim sum and sushi stations, to Thai, Indian and Italian counters, from the freshest breads and salads, to a never-ending offering of antipasti and hors d’oeuvres.
Such an extensive food menu can only be complemented by a robust bar selection. Special cocktails for the occasion were crafted and named after her various identities… the most popular one at the do was fittingly called The Newsmaker.
As guests joined in the festivities, some even serenading the birthday girl with impromptu gigs, it was an evening befitting the significance of the inimitable Malavika. And even candle filled glass stairway (in tribute to her favourite song Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin) made it a magical night that few would forget, in keeping with MS’ panache, style and all encompassing exuberance.
As one guest said “A fitting evening for decades of Sheer Class”
