Abhirami reenters into Mollywood
What flashes through the minds of movie buffs upon hearing the name Abhirami is a tall, pretty lass, whose onscreen partners were mostly biggies, including Mohanlal, Jayaram and Kamal Haasan. She had also worked in the projects of legends like Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Sreekumaran Thampi. Abhirami, who was away from filmdom for the last 10 years after associating with a handful of blockbuster films, is back in tinseltown.
She is all set to star as the leading lady in Apothecary, alongside Jayasurya, Suresh Gopi and Asif Ali. In the movie directed by Madhav Ramdasan, she will play a bold, modern woman. Abhirami, who is married to acclaimed writer Pavanan's grandson Rahul Pavanan, a consultant in the US, for the past four years, says, "I was in the US for the last 10 years. I did my bachelors in consumer psychology in the College of Wooster, Ohio, and have also been working there in the marketing field."
The actress, who debuted in Malayalam, had starred in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada opposite top actors in all the industries. Interestingly, it is her co-star Kamal Haasan, her hero in the film Virumandi, who has been instrumental in her comeback! "I was not in touch with anyone from the industry, apart from my school mates Prithviraj and Indrajith. Kamal sir tracked me down while working for his project Vishwaroopam and asked me to dub for its heroine, Pooja.
When I came down to Chennai for it, I also happened to attend the celebration of 100 years of Indian cinema, where the director of Apothecary met me and offered the role. The story sounded interesting and I decided to go for it," Abhirami recalls.
